Teacher Tube

I've heard of teacher tube before this assignment and actually seen it used several times during my practicum placements. Videos are a great way to spice up a lesson, catch the students' attention and enhance understanding. Because you tube contains many videos that are inappropriate for students, teacher tube has become a popular alternative. Teacher tube contains only videos appropriate for school age students and because of that can be accessed from a school computer. (Unlike you tube.) It's easy to use, as well. You just type in the topic you wish to search and a list of videos about that topic will come up. You can also search audio, documents and photos as well.

1.) http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=201218&title=Conservation_of_energy&vpkey=
This is a Bill Nye video clip of an experiment demonstrating the different kinds of energy. This video could address numerous Virginia, one example being SOL 4.2. This video could help students get a visual understanding of what potential and kinetic energy are.

2.) http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=11187 Teacher tube can also be helpful in helping you, as the teacher, discover new ways to explain a topic to your students. For example, this video shows a teacher explaining the concept of probability. (SOL 5.7)

Class 10/4/10

During class we were able to experiment a bit with Smart Board and the programs it has to offer. Each of us were assigned a program and were able to create a simple activity to share with the class. Mine was "analog." I created a list of words and clues to go with each one. The computer then jumbled the letters of the words and it would be the students job to figure out what the correct word is. The clues are there to help students if they are having trouble figuring out what the word is. I was surprised at how easy the programs were to use. I've had very limited experience with Smart Board and didn't always see how great it was in comparison to other programs I've seen. However, getting to experience a little more with Smart Board gave me ideas for how I this program could be helpful with making a lesson more interactive, fun, and informative.
